Nordic region rental company Nordic Crane has taken delivery of a new 650 tonne Tadano CC 38.650-1 (previously the Demag CC3800-1) lattice boom crawler crane.

The big crawler is rated at a 12 metre radius and comes with a 171 metre main boom and 193 metre maximum tip height. The new crane went straight to work lifting two 54 metre long, seven metre wide, 135 tonne road bridges in Lysaker, near Oslo, Norway. It was configured with 60 metres of main boom, a 39.5 metre back mast with 250 tonnes of Superlift ballast, plus 165 tonnes of superstructure counterweight and the 50 tonnes of carbody counterweight working at a radius of 42 metres, at which point the crane has a capacity of over 185 tonnes.

The new crane rigged for its first job

Chief executive Morton Heli-Hansen said: “With its SSL_2 configuration the CC 38.650-1 was easily able to handle the loads which had a gross weight of 147 tonnes at a radius of 42 metres and then slew them into place and accurately set them down at their intended position – exactly as we’d planned.”

“The CC 38.650-1 is an extremely well-engineered and reliable crane that’s perfect for a huge range of jobs thanks to its incredible power and versatility. Whether you’re talking about industrial and infrastructure projects or erecting large wind turbines, it’s got us covered.”

Rigged with full stick

Nordic Crane runs a fleet of around 350 All Terrain, crawler and loader cranes, along with a special transport and heavy lift division, with around 400 employees operating throughout Sweden, Norway and Denmark. It is part of the family owned Kynningsrud group, with its headquarters in Halden, Norway.
