Finland’s latest snowstorm arrived in the middle of Wednesday night, creating problems for commuters and public transport services in southern Finland on Thursday morning.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) has issued warnings for dangerous or potentially dangerous driving conditions across most of the country, with the exception of Lapland, on Thursday.
Southern areas were expected to get around 10 cm of fresh snowfall, while central parts of the country could get between 3-8 centimetres of new snow.
Some of national rail operator VR’s long-distance and local train services were delayed or cancelled on Thursday.
VR said that the snowy weather has affected its trains and tracks, advising passengers to prepare for schedule changes.
For example InterCity train 22 from Rovaniemi to Helsinki was running about 30 minutes late. A fault in the track system in Central Ostrobothnia prompted an hour-long delay to four other train routes, according to the company.

The snowy weather conditions, expected to continue throughout the day, also caused a number of flight delays, while some incoming international flights were cancelled on Thursday, according to airport operator Finavia.
It said that snow in other parts of Northern Europe was also contributing to delays or cancellations. Finavia advised people seeking real-time updates on arrivals and departures at Helsinki Airport to check their website.
There were a number of fender benders and minor collisions on Thursday in the capital area, but no major accidents were reported in the morning, according to state traffic control firm Fintraffic.
