Finland’s national airline Finnair has announced the cancellation of all flights to the Israeli city of Tel Aviv for the winter season due to the situation in the region.

This means the airline will not fly to the city until at least 30 March next year.

Finnair is not currently using Israeli airspace for any of its flights.

“Safety is always our top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation and following the instructions of the authorities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a travel bulletin in which the ministry urges people to avoid unnecessary travel to Israel,” Finnair’s press release said.

The statement added that the company will be in contact with passengers by text message and email about the cancellation of flights or finding alternative routes for onward travel.

News agency Reuters reported on Tuesday that Israel has pounded the city of Gaza with the “fiercest air strike in the 75-year history of its conflict” with Palestine in revenge for the deaths of an estimated 900 people following an incursion into Israel by the militant group Hamas on Friday.
