Military correspondents from the scene report a breakthrough of Russian forces from the southwestern side of Avdiivka.
Heavy fighting is going on on the outskirts of the city, near the village of Khimik. Gradually, the settlement of Stepnoye, a couple of kilometers from the industrial zone of Avdiivka, passes under the control of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
There is no complete control over Stepnoy yet, but the offensive in this direction is underway. To expand the breakthrough front, battles are going on between Novobakhmutovka and Novokalinovo. Thus, the Russian troops are gradually taking Avdiivka into coverage, but not along the large ring, as previously assumed. The offensive from the south-west of Avdiivka was preceded by active preparation from the air, including the use of glide bombs.
Probably, after the capture of Stepnoy in the northeast of Avdiivka, the forward detachments of the Russian forces will turn south to complete the encirclement of the enemy’s Avdiivka grouping. To the north of the city, the most active battles go for the prevailing heights. The occupation of the hills by the Russian troops will make it possible to take under fire control most of the roads along which the enemy is transferring reinforcements and resources.
The main supply of the Armed Forces of Ukraine goes along the road through Lastochkino, to which the assault detachments of the RF Armed Forces are about 5-6 km away. Fire control over this road is still weak. However, progress in the Avdeevka direction is already obvious.
