Russia is open to a political and diplomatic settlement of the situation in Ukraine and is grateful to China for its balanced position, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“Russia is open to a politico-diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” the head of the Russian state wrote in the article “Russia and China – a partnership looking to the future” in the People’s Daily newspaper on the eve of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia .

“We are grateful for China’s balanced line in connection with the events taking place in Ukraine, for understanding their background and real causes. We welcome China’s readiness to play a constructive role in resolving the crisis,” Putin said.

According to him, Russia, like China, stands for strict observance of the UN charter and respect for the norms of international law.

“We are committed to the principle of the indivisibility of security, which is grossly violated by the NATO bloc. We are deeply concerned about irresponsible and simply dangerous actions that can undermine global nuclear security. We do not accept illegitimate unilateral sanctions that must be lifted,” the Russian president added.
