Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and ongoing operations have likely nearly depleted the country’s equipment and reserves, elements necessary for a successful military operation in eastern Ukraine, according to the Institute for the Study of War.

Russia’s inability to quickly renew its vehicles further limits the possibilities of war maneuvers.

According to the Institute, Russia has lost about half of its T72B and T72B3M tanks.

Recent Western reinforcements in Ukraine with tanks and armored personnel carriers will further limit Russia’s ability to conduct motorized warfare as it struggles to immediately restart production of its defense industry.

At the same time, Ukraine appears to have an opportunity to launch a large-scale counteroffensive in the coming months, but the ability to do so is related to the speed and extent of support provided by the West, particularly in terms of tanks and armored personnel carriers. .

The British Ministry of Defense adds, on the other hand, that Russia’s air force remains almost intact, despite the fact that more than 130 fighters have been lost since the beginning of the war. However, it seems difficult to prepare the Russian air force for a large-scale air attack, as based on the existing conditions in the field, it could lose a significant number of aircraft.

In conclusion, the Russian air force continues to be ineffective in the war mainly due to the threat of Ukrainian defenses and the dispersion of the Russian fleet as protection against strikes on Russian airfields.

Russian fighters operate almost exclusively over Russian-held areas and thus do not perform their key offensive role.
